Maria Polyxa, 30, is the designer behind Psarokokalo “which means fishbone in Greek”. Polyxa, who studied interior design and has an MA in Public Art, started out as a costume and props designer for theater in 2004. In 2007 “after giving birth to my daughter” she tells us, “I started working at home, and making mostly handmade one piece clothes and objects.” These days that is her main occupation, though she does some interior design as well “whenever I’m not changing diapers :)” When asked - what’s her favorite part of the creative process, Polyxa says she enjoys the whole process of creating things. In the future she hopes to manage “working only with recycled materials” as she did in this exquisite one-of necklace, made of pieces of plastic which were washed ashore “and hopefully make my own public work space.” Polyxa, born and raised in Athens, Greece, says the indie-fashion scene there is starting to grow. “Recently one can find very creative thinkers here” she says. To the readers of this blog she would just like to say: Enjoy life guys.
