We came across this captivating Chie Mihara shoe in Verve, 338 Bleecker st. Manhattan. Apparently, Verve were the first American boutique to carry the shoes of this Japanese descendant Brazilian designer,

RIP Alexander the Great

I can’t tell you anything about McQueen you don’t already know or can’t read for yourselves. As a lover of indie fashion, I’m usually not that much into high fashion. I love a good runway show as much as the next person, but for the most part it’s people’s personal style and new young talents which fascinate me the most.
Having said that, the thing I do love about high fashion is the extent to which it is art. And in this aspect, for me, no one was more of an artist than Alexander McQueen (Lee McQueen).

Get your shopping under control / Slanelle

One of Sense of Fashion’s most appreciated and stylish users, French fashion-blogger Slanelle, shares a few tips on how to keep our shopping itch under control.

At one point, we all need to save money, be it for something in particular, or just to learn how to restrain ourselves. Keeping our credit card in our wallet is not always easy, but here are a few tips:

At home

* Tidy up your closet. You are sure to find forgotten pieces that you’ll be happy to wear again!

* Reorganize your closet. Put those forgotten items in front, reorganize your piles. It will give your lots of new outfit ideas.

* Customize your old clothes. Add studs, turn that skirt into a top, cut those jeans to make cut-offs … there are so many ways to give a new life to old-fashioned pieces of clothing.

* Lend your clothes to your friends, and borrow from theirs. Careful though, you need to find someone as cautious as you!

Before going out shopping

* Fix yourself a budget. Decide on a monthly sum you are willing and can afford to spend on clothes and accessories. Draw the line there, and try not to cross it. With a limited budget, you’ll have to be pickier, so only the best items will come home with you.

* Make a wishlist. For one thing, it will be useful for birthdays and Christmas. When people ask you what you want, you’ll already have an answer, and better chance to get something you wanted! Then, you can set up a rule for yourself, for example “never buy an item that been on the wishlist for less than two weeks. If you still want it after two weeks, then it’s probably a keeper and not just a crush.

While Shopping

* Go shopping with friends. And I mean real friends, the kind who tells you the truth, like you don’t look your best in that skirt, or that top is unflattering. We may love a trend so much, that we need a reality check, because it might just not work for our body type. Friends can be here to save us from our shopping mistakes.

* Buy in line with your wardrobe. Do not buy something if you don’t have anything that goes with it. Otherwise, you’ll have to buy matching shoes, purse and top as well…

* Picture yourself wearing the item outside of the fitting room. That top does look gorgeous on you, but if you find it too daring in the fitting room, only imagine how you’ll feel about going out to a party in it. Same goes for shoes: are you really going to walk in those very high heels?

* Focus on the item When buying from an online shop or when buying something you saw in a magazine, try to picture the item by itself. Often, the pretty models would make us want to buy anything!

* Consider quality vs. quantity. You can either have several cheap items, or one expensive one, you have to make a choice.Hope these will work for you!

REBELDNCE: eloquent fashion

When dealing with visual artists of any kind, the questions is always whether they should be dubbing their own creations. For many of them aren’t as eloquent verbally as they are conceptually, and you find yourself thinking “Man, you should have just let your art do the talking.”

What to Wear Part II – You Can Never be Overdressed

Posted by Sense of Fashion

BlogBeautyCrisisfromSenseofFashion

A friend in her early twenties called me up the other day; she wanted my advice on fashion. She’s a lesbian in her 20’s, and she feels she wants to move on from jeans, sneakers and hoodies to pants, shoes and perhaps even dresses.
Last night we met at a birthday party. She was already wearing one of her new purchases – a gorgeous pair of blue pin stripe pants, and her girlfriend was wearing an elegant silky secretary blouse.

We obviously talked fashion; it seemed that all three of us have been feeling lately, that we want to be dressed well ALL of the time. Even at home, at night, when there’s nobody else around.

What To Wear Part 1: The Feared Dress Code

Posted by Sense of Fashion

Kaitline Pike, Community & Marketing Manager for web2.0 EXPO

Imagine you’re an East Coaster, a New Yorker as such, and you’re invited to a wedding in LA. And you ask yourself: what do I wear. I mean, you don’t want to stick out. Not in a bad way anyway.

Unfortunately, of the soon to be married couple, you’re closest to the groom, so you’re not getting any help there. “Wear a dress” he says. Thank you very much. So you Google it: California Wedding Guests. But you’re not really getting anything worth while. Then you go to Flickr, and you search for LA Wedding, but it’s mostly photos of the bride and groom. And you ask around, but nobody knows.
